The short version
- We keep what’s needed to run StudyBridge for you, and nothing for advertising.
- We don’t sell your data or show ads.
- With a tutor, learners never use AI: when the tutor asks Prof for help, the work involved is sent to our AI provider to make a draft for the tutor. In the student version, Prof guides students directly with hints, using content checked before it’s shown.
- You can download your data or delete your account in Settings at any time.
What we keep
- Account: name, email, password (stored scrambled, never readable), role, and the tutor you’re linked to.
- Teaching: subjects, lessons, files, assignments, answers (including photos and whiteboard drawings), marks, feedback, messages, flashcards, notes and time studied.
- Parents: the parent’s name and email, and their link to their child. Optionally a parent phone number or email the tutor adds for sending reports.
- Billing (tutors on a paid plan): your plan and a Stripe customer reference. Card details go to Stripe and never reach us.
- Early access: if you join the list on the website, your email, who you are (student, parent, tutor, centre or school), and what you study, your exam session and country if you tell us. We use it only to tell you when the student version opens and to decide which subjects to build first. Ask us and we’ll delete it.
- Technical: error reports (which screen, what went wrong) to fix bugs. No tracking across other websites.
Who can see what
- A tutor sees their own learners’ work, marks and messages.
- A learner sees their own work, and marks once the tutor gives them back.
- A parent sees reports the tutor has approved, upcoming lessons and due dates, and released marks. Never messages or working.
- The StudyBridge team can access data only to keep the service running, fix problems you report, or meet a legal duty.
Children
Many learners are under 18. Below grade 8, a parent sets up or approves the account; where the law asks for it (for example India, under 18), a parent confirms by email. Learners with a tutor join through their tutor’s invite, and the tutor confirms a parent or guardian agrees. We collect only what’s needed for learning, never use children’s data for marketing, and a parent can ask the tutor, or us, to see or delete their child’s data. The early-access list is for people aged 13 or over, or parents signing up for their child.
Prof and AI
When a tutor asks Prof to mark, plan, make questions or draft a report, the relevant material (for example a learner’s answers and the mark scheme) is sent to Anthropic, which provides the AI model. In the student version, a student’s answers are sent the same way when Prof marks them or gives a hint. Anthropic processes it to produce the result and doesn’t use it to train its models. With a tutor, every draft is checked by the tutor before anyone else sees it.
Services we use
- Supabase: database, sign-in and file storage.
- Anthropic: the AI behind Prof, for tutor requests only.
- Stripe: payments, once paid plans start.
- Resend: sending emails such as weekly reports, once switched on.
- Cloudflare: hosts this website and the phone and web version.
- GitHub: hosts the app downloads and updates.
- Google: only if you choose “Continue with Google” to sign in.
How long we keep it
As long as your account is open. When you delete your account, your data is deleted straight away, apart from backups, which roll over within 30 days, and anything we must keep by law (such as payment records).
Your choices and rights
- Download: Settings → Your data → Download my data gives you a ZIP of everything that’s yours.
- Correct: change your details in Settings, or ask your tutor.
- Delete: Settings → Your data → Delete my account.
- Depending on where you live, you may have further rights (for example under GDPR or India’s DPDP Act). Contact us and we’ll help.
Security
Connections are encrypted, each person can reach only their own data (enforced by the database itself), and secret keys are stored on the server where nobody can read them back.
